On an organization’s Lotus Domino server a documented database is created. Organization workers have access to this database according to set access rights (each user must have various access rights and various possibilities of work with documents stored in the database). According to the rules and abilities, it is possible to distribute Lotus Notes (replicate, copy), create an archive, create local replicas at user stations, etc. According to the type of database, functions for ensuring workflow (approval process, visibility, etc.) can also be present here.

It is possible to implement WordAtt technology into this database. This allows users to store documents of office applications in this database as attachments. Documents may be templates (from the template storage) or of the organization’s own creation (letters, tables, etc.). However, it is significant that the user has at his/her disposal a set of functions (buttons) right in the Lotus Notes database in such a way that he/she can work in the environment of office applications (create, edit, store, print) without having to store anything on his/her local disk, and changes in documents are automatically up-dated when storing Lotus Notes documents. Additionally, it is possible to mutually put through fields (items in the LN database) and fields in documents, and automatically transfer data in both directions. It is thus possible, for example, to use the calculation abilities of MS Excel in tables and forms of the application in Lotus Notes.
